Local Tips
1. Grab and Gojek, are popular for rides and food delivery. Download the app, have small bills for cash payments, and note that some areas restrict pick-ups due to local laws.
2. Bring Some Cash, ATMs are plentiful, but some cafes don’t accept cards, so carry enough cash and small bills. Most places accept cards, except in remote areas or small local spots.
3. Money Changer, sometimes money changers are scammers. Only use professional authorized money changers (bigger offices). Always count the money they give to you (after they put it in an envelope) before leaving the place.
4. Transport, the best way to get around is by motorbike. If you need car transport or tours, we can help organize one for you.
Etiquette
1. Respect at Temples, Bali’s temples are sacred places. Please dress modestly when visiting, covering shoulders and legs. Many temples offer sarongs at the entrance if you don’t have one.
2. Greeting Locals, a warm smile and a gentle “Selamat Pagi” (Good Morning) or “Terima Kasih” (Thank you) are always appreciated by locals. Bowing slightly is also a respectful gesture.
3. Offerings on the Ground, you’ll often see small, beautiful offerings (canang sari) placed on the ground. Try to avoid stepping on them, as they are important in Balinese spiritual practice.
4. Mind the Noise, many areas are peaceful residential zones, so we kindly ask you to keep noise to a minimum in the early mornings and late evenings.
5. Plastic-Free Efforts, Bali is making great strides in reducing plastic waste. Whenever possible, carry a reusable bag and water bottle, and say “no” to single-use plastics.
6. Tipping, isn’t required but is appreciated for good service, especially in restaurants and for drivers. A small tip of around 10% is common and will be warmly received.
